2nd Worldwide Uchinanchu Conference 2008 Brazil

The 2nd Worldwide Uchinanchu Conference is being held in Brazil August 2008.

Saturday August 23rd there was a parade and Okinawan festival in Sao Paulo, attended by thousands of Okinawans from around the world, as well as many local Brazilians (Okinawan and non). There were several outstanding performances, capped off by a fireworks display.

It was a great chance for the many Uchinanchu who attended to meet each other.

On Sunday, August 24, 2008, the official ceremony for the 100th anniversary of Okinawan Immigration in Brazil took place, with many visiting dignitaries, as well as several performances. WUB (Worldwide Uchinanchu Business Association) International held their annual board meeting.

Monday, August 25th is the day for the 2nd Worldwide Uchinanchu Conferences, held at the Maksoud Hotel. The keynote speaker is Dr. Craig Wilcox speaking about Okinawan longevity. Conferences will be held in 5 rooms, with topics such as "Women's Conference," "Worldwide Uchinanchu Network," "Okinawan's Progress in Brazil."

There is also an academic forum, with professors from the University of Hawaii, University of the Ryukyus, University of Sao Paulo with presentations such as: "30 Years of Okinawan Immigration Research," "Educational System, Research and the Uchinanchus" and "Uchinanchu's Migration and Network."
